International Maxi Games: “Mar del Plata will host the event that will be talked about all over the world.”
On Monday, a press conference was held at the headquarters of the Municipal Tourism and Culture Agency (EMTURyC) to report on progress in the organization of the International Maxi Games, an event that will take place from November 24 to December 4, 2026, in Mar del Plata.
The press conference was attended by Valeria Méndez (Director of Tourism, EMTURyC), Sebastián D'Andrea (Director of the Municipal Sports Authority, EMDER), and members of the Games Organizing Committee: Agustín Rodríguez Lamas (President), Susana Treidel (Secretary), Ana Massagli (Treasurer), Franco Zullich (assistant secretary), and Viviana Busso (member).
“THE WORLD WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THIS EVENT”
The occasion was a good opportunity to present the official video of the International Maxi Games. Rodríguez Lamas opened the meeting by expressing "his gratitude to EMTURyC, EMDER, and representatives of the sports disciplines for supporting the event. There is a lot of enthusiasm for this event, and we estimate that between 15,000 and 20,000 people will be in Mar del Plata for nine days. These Games are now a reality, and the world will talk about this event."
Treidel spoke about the “historic moment when this event began in 1991 and will be repeated in 2026.”
Zullich announced the number of disciplines that have been added (40) and pointed out that he may still see a few more.
“THE BIGGEST EVENT”
During the press conference, Valeria Méndez (EMTURyC) said: "In addition to the press conference, we made progress in signing the Memorandum of Understanding for the International Maxi Games. We took the opportunity to discuss all the logistics involved in this major event, which will take place in the city of Mar del Plata. It is the biggest event because we estimate that 20,000 athletes will come to compete in 40 disciplines."
ADDITIONAL MEETINGS
It should be noted that two meetings were held prior to this. The first was with representatives from EMTURyC, in which the legal and regulatory aspects of the International Maxi Games were analyzed. The agenda covered sporting and social details.
The second was with the gastronomic sector, taking into account the magnitude of the event.
After the press conference, the Committee held a meeting with the head of EMDER to set the sporting calendar and detail the infrastructure needs.
D'ANDREA: “WE SAW ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY”
The head of EMDER, Sebastián D'Andrea, said: “We have high expectations and we know the magnitude of the event. Not only in terms of sports but also in terms of tourism. We saw organizational capacity, which is what guarantees the success of the event. Mar del Plata is ready to host this event, not only because of its sports capacity, but also because of its hotel and gastronomic capacity and as a city.”
