Following their participation in the FIMBA Pan American Maxi Basketball Championship held in San Salvador, four teams from Fushion Mexico will be packing their bags once again.
This time, they will be taking part in the International Maxi Games, an event scheduled for November 24 through December 4 in Mar del Plata.
They will compete in the 45, 50, 55, and 60 age groups. The Mexican flag will fly high in Argentina, and the spirit of sportsmanship will be on full display as they embark on another outstanding experience.
The driving force behind this great project is Patricia Benítez Domínguez, who explains: “We participated in the World Championship in Switzerland and the Pan American Games in El Salvador; now we’re resting, and in May we’ll start getting together and preparing for Mar del Plata. Our team is called Fushion Mexico City; we have four teams and are also putting together the 35-and-over category. I’m the team manager; I handle logistics, but I also coach.”
HER BACKGROUND
Patricia has played basketball her whole life: “I started at 12, moved up to the youth league, and from there to the Major League with Águilas. Years went by, I started a family and stepped away, but I came back with Maxi, where we all reunited. The first tournaments were in Tlaxcala, Pachuca, and Jalisco.”
She also recounts that “in addition to forming teams and making friends, we started winning championships, such as in Tijuana, where we qualified for the World Cup in Switzerland, and achieved other successes in Celaya and Tampico, for example. At the Pan American Championships in El Salvador, we competed in four age groups, winning the championship in the +60 category and finishing as runners-up in the +45 and +50 categories.”
A GREAT EXPERIENCE
The FIMBA Pan American Championship left her with “a great experience. It was wonderful at this age to socialize with people from other countries; playing against teams like Brazil, whose players competed in the WNBA, was unforgettable.
Now I’m resting but thinking about this big project: going to the International Maxi Games in Mar del Plata.”
