The International Maxi Games will feature countless athletic stories. One of them will be that of Olivia Esmeralda Campaña Rivera, born in Ambato, Ecuador.
On one hand, she’ll compete in basketball with her team, Ecuador 50 A, and on the other, she’s entered the track and field events of javelin throw, high jump, and the 100-meter dash.
She’ll undoubtedly be coming from her home country to enjoy herself, but also to compete in her two passions.
“As a child, I practiced track and field, and I started playing basketball in my youth. Then, due to life circumstances, I stopped. I returned to basketball, and now that I saw the call for entries for the Maxi Games in track and field, I felt it was important to take it up again,” she explained.
The athlete recalled that “two or three years ago, we started playing in FIMBA tournaments internationally, traveling to El Salvador, Switzerland, Mérida, and other places. We practically never stop. It’s a way to do two things we love: travel and compete.”
A teacher in Ecuador, with two daughters (Camila and Carla) playing basketball on scholarships in the United States, Esmeralda (a versatile point guard) undoubtedly lives and breathes the sport. And she’ll do the same in Mar del Plata.
